Design Considerations

Room size: A standard double Murphy bed unit requires approximately 1.6m of clear wall width and 2.1m of floor depth when lowered. We assess your room and recommend the best orientation — horizontal or vertical — to maximise the daytime space.

Wall construction: Murphy beds can be fixed to masonry, timber stud, or steel frame walls. We assess the wall structure and use appropriate fixings and spreader plates to ensure the unit is safely anchored for the weight of the mattress and mechanism.

Mattress: We supply high-quality, fold-compatible mattresses (typically memory foam or pocket spring, 15–20cm deep) as part of the installation package. Standard household mattresses are generally too thick and heavy for Murphy mechanisms.

Costs & Lead Times

A basic Murphy bed unit with simple flanking shelves starts from approximately £3,500 (supply and install). A fully bespoke system with integrated wardrobes, desk, and sofa alcoves typically costs £6,000–£12,000 depending on size and specification.

Manufacturing takes 4–6 weeks from order confirmation. Installation takes one to two days on site. We then decorate and make good any wall areas disturbed during installation.
