About Belsize Park
Belsize Park was developed in the 19th century on land that had been part of the Belsize Estate. The area takes its name from Belsize House, a manor house that stood here from medieval times. Development began in earnest in the 1850s with the construction of substantial villas and mansion blocks.
The area became popular with artists and intellectuals in the early 20th century. Piet Mondrian lived and worked here, as did many other European emigrés fleeing the Second World War.
